Those small places where you hangout with your buddies become a crucial part of college life. Sipping on tea, munching on chips and patties and flipping through the notes while talking about make ups and break ups of the day – these are not easily forgotten. Be it the cafeteria at the Oriental Group of Institutes or the lawn at TIT College, students in Bhopal have their own set of campus spots where they socialize, grab a bite, bond with the friends or even study, sometimes.
Nescafe@ Nutan College The coffee outlet inside the premises is a favorite spot for the girls. Shilpa Tiwari, who is pursuing her BA, says, “This spot is amongst the most happening ones in our college. During winter, a steaming hot cup of coffee remains in great demand among the girls. Our canteen is another happening spot because a TV is installed there.” Suman Singh, another BSc student, says, “Many discussions take place in our group over a cup of coffee. If we are not spending time in our canteen, then the coffee shop turns out to be the place to share notes, discuss studies and listen to music during lunch hour.”
Auditorium @ Vidyapeeth Group of Institutes The students at Vidyapeeth enjoy their time at the auditorium which turns as the best place for them to have group discussions and secret meetings too. Arvind Gupta, a CS branch final year student, says, “Generally, the terrace of our college becomes our favorite spot during winter, but otherwise most of our time is spent in the auditorium. It’s spacious and quiet too.” Pratima Payal, a CS branch fourth year student, says, “Because it is at the topmost floor, hardly anyone comes there. We enjoy our free time there and all our friends in our circle know about this spot. Whenever we have something important to discuss or are done with classes, we head to the auditorium.”
Lawn area @ TIT With a huge campus, TIT has innumerable hangout spots for students, but the lawn area is a universal favorite. This otherwise quiet spot bursts with laughter once lectures are over and comes alive with gossip and jokes during lunch hours and free periods. Group studies, discussions about new movies and bunking, it all happens here. Ananya Shukla, CS, a second semester students, says, “The lawn is the best stress-busting spot for us and we can do whatever we want there. We play games like truth or dare and take group pictures to preserve the good memories.” Ankit Raj, another CS student, says, “Right from discussing about new Bollywood releases to talking about each other’s girlfriend/boyfriend issues, this spot is the best hangout and becomes crowded during lunch hours. We’ve even been caught while bunking an important lecture. But it is a fun experience that we cherish.” Adarsh Modi also has similar memories to share. “It’s the place where we exchange our lunch boxes, complete assignments and chat with friends. Full on masti happens here,” he says.
Cafeteria @ Oriental Group of Institutes The Oriental campus is not just aesthetically designed but also has a beautiful environment with lush gardens and wide corridors. But the students love their canteen. Chatting over a cup of coffee and relishing platefuls of pocket-friendly snacks is something every college student will remember. Akash Kumar Soni, a third year pharmacy student, says, “The campus is huge and has much to offer in terms of hangouts. The lawns and the canteen are favorites. There are many other places within the campus too, where students hangout. You simply pick one and make it your own. It can be overwhelming in the beginning but then it starts to feel like home.”
For some, it’s about how big the campus is while for some, campus life is all about finding a cosy hideout. Chaya Singh, a third year pharmacy student, says, “It’s a place where you see more students than in the classes. It is actually one of the most happening places for any student in his/her college life.” Shivangi Dubey, a second year BE student, says, “All our special memories are attached with the college canteen because birthday celebrations and treats have been taking place here.”
Parking lot @ Career College Vivek Gupta, a BSC final year student, says, “Our college campus gives us a sense of spaciousness, housing different department buildings, each with its own set of addas. But the parking lot tops the hangout list because the college is adjacent to the main road and it turns out to be happening especially during the afternoon when students get to munch on pani puris.” Vyoma Sadhu, a microbiology final year student, says, “We have a parking lot inside the college premises too, but the outside parking lot is more happening. It is a common sight to see groups of students sitting on parked vehicles. Soon after our lectures and classes the students head towards the pani puri stalls.” Pavan Barua, a BSc final year student, shares, “When you have a good place to sit, friends to chat and lunch boxes to share, what else do you need? When summer is at its peak, we will also have sugar cane juice stalls set up in front of the college. All my friends love to have a glass of it and at times we even bet over who will have more than four.”
